Sewing patterns almost always ship as A4 tiles so you can print them at home. If you have a plotter or a projector you want the whole thing on one sheet instead. Drop the PDF in, say how the tiles were laid out, and get a single A0 page back.

Upload the tiled PDF the designer gave you, pick the layout that matches it (for example 3 columns by 4 rows), and set how much to trim off each page edge. The tool crops away the printer margins and overlap, lays the pages back into a grid, and gives you one continuous page you can send to a plotter or copy shop.
It does the same job. PDF Stitcher is a free desktop program that sewists have relied on for years, and it is excellent — but you have to download and install it. This runs in the browser, so it works on a phone, a tablet, or a locked-down work laptop. If you stitch patterns often, the desktop version has more options and is worth installing.
Most A4 tiled patterns need somewhere between 5 and 10mm. The designer usually prints trim lines or a border showing exactly where to cut — measure from the paper edge to that line. If you trim too little you will see white gaps between the tiles; too much and the pattern lines will not meet up.
You cannot tell from the page count alone — twelve pages could be 3x4 or 4x3 or 2x6. Most patterns print a small grid map on the first page, or label the pages A1, A2, B1 and so on. The tool lists every layout that fits your page count along with the finished size, so pick the one whose dimensions look right for a garment.
Yes, and that is one of the main reasons people merge. A projector needs the whole pattern as one continuous image so it can be scaled and calibrated against a known measurement. Tiled pages are useless for that. Merge first, then calibrate in your projector software.
Yes. Anything that was split across pages for home printing works the same way — tiled maps, architectural drawings, posters made with PosteRazor, model aircraft plans, quilting templates. The tool does not care what is on the pages, only how they were arranged.
